Hanen More Than Words

About the program

More Than Words is a program that provides parents of young children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) or social communication difficulties with practical tools to help their children communicate. Suitable for parents with children ages 5 and under, you will receive practical strategies and tools to support your little learners to expand their communication. The program aims to:

  1. Improve back-and-fourth social interactions

  2. Enhance communication skills

  3. Advance play with toys

  4. Improve understanding of language

What will I learn in More Than Words?

  • How your child communicates

  • How your child learns best

  • What motivates your child to communicate

  • How to turn everyday activities into opportunities for learning to communicate

  • How to help your child understand what you say

  • How to develop your child’s play skills

  • How to help your child make friends

Program details

  • Over 12 weeks, you will participate in the following:

  • 1 x pre-program consultation with our lead speech pathologist

  • 8 x training group sessions of up to eight parents

  • 3 x individual video feedback sessions personalised with your speech pathologist

This in person 6-hour workshop is designed to teach parents and teachers techniques to support an understand of sound structure of language for literacy development in children. Initially devised by Speech Pathologist Jane Passy, then delivered by Speech Pathologist Helen Bathom, and will now be delivered by our in house Speech Pathologist, Freeda Thong.
